PRS, Inc., Named One of "50 Best Nonprofits to Work For" in US

Monday, April 4, 2011

PRS, Inc., a community-based nonprofit serving persons with mental illness, emotional and/or behavioral disorders in Northern Virginia, has been named one of The Nonprofit Times' 50 Best Nonprofits to Work For in a national search.

This recognition, announced in an April 2011 Nonprofit Times’ special publication profiling the 50 organizations selected, is given to organizations that demonstrate outstanding employee satisfaction, engagement and development opportunities; organizational culture; leadership and planning; pay/benefits; and work environment. The evaluation was based on a national comparison of the results of Employee Engagement & Satisfaction Surveys and Employer Benefits & Policies Questionnaires.  A remarkable 81% of PRS’ employees responded to the employee survey coordinated by The Best Companies Group, and PRS management completed the extensive questionnaire detailing PRS’ pay and benefits, hiring and employment practices, work/life balance and wellness initiatives, training and career development opportunities, and corporate culture.

PRS ranked 35th among the 50 nonprofits of all sizes and in all areas of the country that received this recognition. Go to http://shop.nptimes.com/images/view.aspx?productId=1361 to see all award winners.

PRS President and CEO Wendy Gradison explains, “Recovery of our clients happens because of the partnerships they develop with our immensely talented and dedicated employees. PRS knows that in order to attract and retain our valuable employees who provide our clients with the outstanding services and supports for which we are known, we must provide our employees with the tools, training, positive work environment and benefits they deserve.”

PRS was founded in 1963 during the nationwide movement to deinstitutionalize patients in mental hospitals. As thousands of former mental patients were released from hospitals, community organizations realized the vital need for community-based mental health services to help close the gap between hospital and community life.

Since 1963, PRS, Inc. has grown to be a leader and innovator in the “recovery” model of rehabilitation, which tailors services to each individual’s needs and goals. Today, PRS serves close to 800 persons annually with a variety of rehabilitation services designed to facilitate clients’ recovery from mental illness, emotional and/or behavioral disorders, and assist them in achieving satisfying and productive community lives. PRS offers curriculum-based Recovery Academies, supported employment services, residential services and community-based support services.  For more information about PRS, please visit their website at www.prsinc.org.
