What is PRS?

PRS, Inc., is the premier nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization in Northern Virginia providing community-based support services and training needed for men and women to recover from mental illness.

Our Clients

Most PRS clients are adult residents of Northern Virginia with severe mental illness such as schizophrenia, bi-polar disorder or major depression.  Many have lived with their illnesses for most of their adult lives, moving in and out of hospitals, residing with aging parents or even living on the streets. 

Founded

Established in 1963.

Global Ends

PRS exists so that individuals with mental illness are able to achieve their own personal recovery and community integration.  PRS will efficiently utilize public and private resources to achieve all Board Ends.

Services Offered

PRS Day Program provides clients with the skills training, support and resources needed to live and work in the community while recovering from mental illness.  We work alongside our clients at all phases of recovery, teaching them, step-by-step, how to live independently.

PRS Employment Services include career counseling, on-the-job assessments work adjustment training classes, job search support, job support groups, and specialized services for individuals with professional/technical skills.  PRS Employment Specialists are trained to help clients choose, get and keep competitive employment.

PRS Mental Health Support Service assist persons with mental illness in their homes or in the community.  Community Support Specialists teach clients practical daily living skills such as housekeeping and budgeting and link clients with resources in the community.  Specialists may also provide supportive counseling, case management and crisis intervention.

PRS Community Housing makes permanent housing and an array of support services available to adults with mental illness throughout Northern Virginia.  Services provided include case management, community living skills training, supportive counseling, and crisis intervention.  These services are delivered to clients living in homes directly operated by PRS, in County-subsidized housing, and with family members or other caregivers.  PRS Willow Lane is an intensive supportive housing program that makes permanent housing, residential support services, psychiatric rehabilitation, and psychiatric treatment available to adult with psychiatric disabilities being dischared from hospitals into the community.  Staffed 24/7, PRS Willow Lane provides a coordinated system of support services to give residents an environment with a high degree of structure and supervision.
